What do agencies charge per month for each service?

These are ranges published by agencies that sell the services, so they show what firms quote rather than what buyers pay. Dollar figures use about Rs 97 to the dollar, the XE mid-market rate on 12 October 20262.

  • SEO: Rs 10,000 to 50,000 a month, about $100 to $5151. A freelancer doing SEO alone is quoted at Rs 8,000 to 15,000, about $80 to $1556.
  • Ad management (PPC): a fee of Rs 20,000 to 1,00,000 a month, about $205 to $1,0301, or 10 to 20 percent of ad spend3.
  • Social media management: Rs 15,000 to 30,000, about $155 to $3101.
  • Content marketing: Rs 5,000 to 20,000, about $50 to $2051.
  • Small-business multi-channel retainer: Rs 25,000 to 75,000, about $260 to $7751. Startups: Rs 20,000 to 60,000, about $205 to $6203.

Does the city change the price?

Published figures are patchy. We found city-specific bands for Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai and Gurugram, all from agencies selling in those cities, and none that compare cities like for like.

  • Chennai: one Chennai agency's guide calls Rs 5,000 to 10,000 a month for full-service work suspect and puts fair value at Rs 25,000 to 1,00,000 and above, about $260 to $1,0307.
  • Bangalore, SEO only: Rs 15,000 to 40,000 for a small single-location business, Rs 45,000 to 1,20,000 for a growing SME, and Rs 1,50,000 and above for competitive categories8.
  • Mumbai: SEO Rs 15,000 to 50,000, PPC Rs 20,000 to 1,00,000, social media Rs 10,000 to 40,000 and content Rs 5,000 to 20,000, described as illustrative bands with no method given9.
  • Gurugram: local SEO Rs 10,000 to 40,000, and full-service retainers from Rs 50,000 to 5,00,000 and above5.

How far can I trust the city bands?

Use them as rough guides. Within one city the spread is already wide, and a Bangalore agency notes that a Rs 20,000 quote and a Rs 60,000 quote for SEO are not the same service, because page counts, content volume and technical work differ8. The Gurugram guide adds that the available figures come from agency blogs quoting their own bands5.

What is inside a retainer, and what is billed extra?

Ask for this split in writing before you compare totals.

  • The agency fee: flat monthly retainers for performance marketing run Rs 30,000 to 2,00,0003.
  • Ad spend: billed separately from agency fees and paid to Google, Meta or other platforms3.
  • Tools: a freelancer may bill tools and content extra, while an agency may bundle a tool stack that costs Rs 1.5 to 3 lakh a year on its own into the retainer10.
  • Content and creative: ask whether articles, designs and videos are inside the fee or priced per piece.
  • Setup or audit fees: ask for one-time charges to be listed separately.
  • GST: 18 percent is charged on digital marketing and advertising services4.

How do I compare two quotes?

Ask each agency for the same lines: what is delivered each month (pieces, posts, reports), which channels, who does the work, how often you meet, what the report shows, the minimum term and notice period, and what is billed extra. Then see how to pay a marketing agency for the contract terms.

Use Google's hiring checks as a filter: ask for examples of previous work, speak to references, and ask that all changes to your site are shared with you11. The Chennai guide lists five warning signs: a guaranteed ranking, no plain-language explanation of the plan, no references or case studies, a long lock-in without a performance clause, and vanity metrics as the main measure of success7.

What KanavuLab does

We do not publish a retail retainer for digital marketing. The work is scoped and quoted after a 20-minute call, and the quote lists what is inside and what is billed extra.

You approve everything that goes out under your name, accounts and domain are in your name from day one, and scope changes are priced in writing first. If a smaller start fits your budget, we say so.

Follow-up questions

Is Rs 10,000 a month enough for an agency?

It can cover one narrow service. Published SEO ranges start at Rs 10,0001, and a freelancer doing SEO alone is quoted at Rs 8,000 to 15,0006. For full-service work, a Chennai agency's guide calls Rs 5,000 to 10,000 a month suspect7. Match the budget to one channel rather than several.

Is ad spend included in the monthly fee?

Normally not. One Indian agency says its management fees are typically separate from ad spend, and that percentage-of-spend fees run 10 to 20 percent3. A contract guide advises that audiences and pixel data sit in your own ad accounts12.

I am outside India. Will I pay GST?

Export of services is described as zero-rated when conditions are met, one being payment in convertible foreign exchange4. Confirm with a chartered accountant. This is general information, not tax or legal advice.
